Are you looking for material to cut steel with?
We are happy to tell you more about suitable materials for cutting steel. Steel is relatively hard, which means that not everything is suitable for cutting steel. It may also be unknown how hard the steel is that needs to be cut.
The safest choice is then to choose a material that is both wear-resistant and tough. In this case, we often advise our customers wst. 1.2767 or its more exclusive ‘brother’ wst 1.2746.
What kind of materials are these, wst. 1.2767 of wst 1.2746?
Wst. 1.2767 and wst. 1.2746 are also called ‘nickel steel’, because of the high nickel percentage (approx. 4%). Both types can be hardened to a hardness of approximately 54-56 HRc. Depending on the application for which the material is used, a lower hardness is also possible.
What is the difference between these materials?
The ‘little brother’ wst. 1.2746 is called exclusive, because of the better quality. This material is especially suitable if different types of materials need to be cut.
Another important difference is that the material wst. 1.2767 is available from stock. It is produced by steel production companies in sheet form, in different thicknesses. We buy this sawn, in the right dimensions, for your products. In contrast to its ‘little brother’, the material wst. 1.2746 is not produced in stock. Depending on the bar size, this must be purchased rolled or forged to order.
Long delivery times wst. 1.2767 of wst 1.2746
There are only a limited number of steel production companies that make these materials. In combination with the method of production, this ensures that the delivery time can be up to 6 months. To prevent these delivery times, Willpro has a large quantity of these materials in stock, in different dimensions. This means that this basic material is quickly available to our customers and we can start production immediately.
More options for cutting steel
Wst. 1.2767 and wst. 1.2746 are not the only two materials that are suitable for cutting steel. But it is a first, safe choice. There are different materials that can be better suited for each application, for example to improve the service life. We will write an article about this later, so keep an eye on our website.
